Intermediate / Senior Mechanical Engineer - Mining

About the role:
- The Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mining will be based in our Toronto office and work under the general supervision of the Manager, Mechanical Engineering - Mining.
- The Engineer will be involved in all aspects of the equipment’s life cycle, including: scope definition, bidding, design, manufacture, assembly, installation-commissioning, field service, plus long-term operational support. The in-house design includes detailed solid modeling design, hydraulic circuit design, gear design, and FEM stress analysis, as well as the selection of purchased specialty components such as bearings, couplings, and brakes. Our products are custom designed and built from the ground up with Hepburn procuring heavy mill-run plate, forgings, and castings followed by rolling, fabrication, machining, and inspection.
- The work is assigned in terms of objectives, relative priorities, and critical areas that interface work with other units. Work is carried out within broad guidelines; however, informed guidance is available. Completed work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and adherence to deadlines.
About you / qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
- Five years or more of experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong design aptitude with practical, hands-on experience.
- Experience in design and commissioning of Safety Critical Mechanical systems.
- Experience with CAD and FEA.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in the English language.
- Professional Engineer or eligibility.
- Interest in travel to support design work.
- Experience with site work and commissioning including inspections, alignment checks, hydraulic commissioning, and general mechanical skills.
What You will do:
- Provide leadership in progressing the detailed design solution including 3D modelling, hydraulic systems, specification for gearboxes, stress analysis, FEA, detailed BOMs & specifications for mechanical equipment build.
- Support start-up and commissioning of equipment, including sign-off on all safety-critical functions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant equipment and safety regulations and codes applicable.
- Provide leadership in detailed review of customer RFQ packages and support finding a robust technical solution with an itemized BOM and estimated hours to complete the work.
- Obtain estimates from approved vendors in support of bid submission.
- Take a leadership role in presenting the proposed solution to the customer in a Technical Bid review.
- Support training of less experienced engineers.
- Work in a project environment in close association with electrical design engineers to produce integrated custom-built equipment.
- Support procurement in review of detailed vendor proposals for compliance to design criteria.
- Produce equipment documentation including operating and maintenance manuals, safety compliance reports, and finalized design documentation.
- Initiate plans and ideas for cost reduction and/or quality improvement measures.
- Travel within North America and internationally for approximately 20% of the time. Typical trips range from a few days to approximately 3 weeks maximum.

Field Service Coordinator

The Field Service Coordinator (FSC) supports the Engineering / Field Service team(s) by performing a variety of critical administrative tasks and coordination activities related to field service proposals, contracts, and project execution.
What you will do:
- Receive and log all incoming field-service requests, using available databases/tools, sent by external customers or indirectly from internal engineering and/or contract administration teams.
- Lead and/or assist in preparing and finalizing field service quotes, proposals and contracts.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop work scopes and quotes, and compile proposal documentation
- Draft estimates and quote letters for review and submission.
- Create and track purchase orders as required for subcontracted field service support
- Receive and acknowledge customer communications, inquiries and issues; redirect issues to appropriate staff for action.
- Support field service scheduling, progress tracking and monitoring.
- Ensure all related project documentation is collected and in order so that all subsequent invoicing related activities can be completed, as required.
- Manage and update all related tools, databases and documentation related to the field service project lifecycle.
- Travel, occasionally, to supplier and customer locations.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
About you / qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or advanced level College diploma in engineering, business administration, or project management.
- Proven experience in coordination, administration, or support roles, preferably within an engineering, or technical environment.
- Familiarity reviewing commercial / technical terms and conditions is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to create, edit and format professional level correspondence and presentations.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams. Experience with Microsoft Project is a plus.
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage time on multiple simultaneous projects and deliverables

Project Manager
The Project Manager plays a pivotal role in the success of Hepburn Engineering. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary, customer-facing focal point during the execution phase of capital projects.
- Oversee purchasing activities, from contract signature to the end of warranty.
- Develop realistic and achievable project plans that align with contractual obligations and customer delivery requirements.
- Lead meetings and provide regular project updates to customers and suppliers, managing challenges proactively.
- Drive internal teams to ensure engineering deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, purchasing, and other departments, to align efforts and goals.
- Manage project financials, ensuring costs remain under budget and contractual obligations are met.
- Assess and manage scope changes, adhering to change control procedures and ensuring documentation via contract change orders.
- Identify and mitigate project risks with effective strategies.
- Monitor project deliverables to meet internal quality standards and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Manage customer billing, ensuring milestones are achieved and invoiced according to contract.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including plans, progress reports, and meeting minutes.
- Conduct post-delivery reviews, documenting lessons learned to improve future project performance.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical discipline.
- Experience: 3–5 years of project management experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, including supply chain management and procurement.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools like MS Project.
- Advanced skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer-facing abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks and devise effective solutions.
- Industry Knowledge:
- Familiarity with mining or marine industry standards, regulations, and best practices is an asset.
- Language Proficiency:
- Fluent in English; additional languages (e.g., French, Spanish, Italian, Korean) are an asset.
- Other:
